Today I’m happy to announce that Preload LCP Image 1.6 has been released.
This version is a major bump, as I’ve improved compatibility with WooCommerce, as well as fix a few bugs. It’s also now compatible with WordPress 7.0.
WooCommerce Compatibility Improved
Whilst I introduced a setting in Preload LCP Image 1.3, that allowed you to show the featured image as a default, a few folks (including this review) noted that it doesn’t work for taxonomies. It makes sense, as by default taxonomies don’t tend to have featured images out of the box.
Now, that’s been made compatible with WooCommerce, that does have featured images in it’s taxonomies by default. As this is fairly ubiquitous and really unlikely to change, I’ve made it so the plugin will preload the the thumbnail of WooCommerce taxonomies if the option is set to default to the featured image.
As always, you can overwrite this for individual categories or taxonomy terms in the usual way, by specifying a new image in the “URL of the Image” box, for both mobile and desktops.
The next stop is to try and expand that to all taxonomies. That may take a bit of time. I’ve started a refactor that will hopefully make it a lot easier going forward!
Few Bug Fixes
There have also been a few bug fixes. The main one has been a logic error that caused the “Find image to Preload” button not work on taxonomies. Should you enable the Preload LCP features on taxonomies but disable on the associated post type.
This was due to the JavaScript that handles this button first loading on post types, so I’ve introduced it to work on taxonomies too.
Compatible with WordPress 7.0
I’ve also made it so it’s compatible with WordPress 7.0. This hasn’t been a huge amount of work to get working, but I’ll probably do a small cleanup in the look and the CSS in the next version.
